LAROCHE (Jean). Cuisine. A collection of 117 recipes illustrated by Edouard Vuillard, A. Dunoyer de Segonzac, and A. Villeboeuf. Paris: Arts et Métiers Graphiques, 1935. Large quarto, softcover, and double slipcase designed to resemble oilcloth with a “Scottish tartan” pattern. LIMITED EDITION OF 170 COPIES. This copy is one of the 10 numbered head copies on Imperial Japan paper, the only ones featuring a separate suite, on Japan paper with wide margins (folio format), of all the illustrations in this collection: 6 lithographs by Edouard VUILLARD, 6 etchings by DUNOYER DE SEGONZAC, and 6 etchings by André VILLEBOEUF. 117 recipes selected by the author, a native of the Périgord region and a lover of art and cuisine. The recipes, some of which are from his cook, Hélène Dumont, are presented on papers of varying textures and colors. This beautiful copy bears a handwritten dedication by Dunoyer de Segonzac on the flyleaf: “This book of friends gathered around Jean Laroche’s excellent table on Rue Alfred de Vigny.” The artist also signed and numbered his six large etchings from the separate suite in India ink. Five previously unpublished etchings by Segonzac have been added at the end of the volume. The volume is further enhanced by an original drawing by Vuillard (“La Flambée”), stamped and lithographed in the book with a few variations. ONE-OF-A-KIND CONDITION.
