RIMBAUD (Arthur). *Reliquaire*. Poems. Preface by Rodolphe Darzens. Paris, L. Genonceaux, 1891. In-12, hardcover in pink marbled Bradel paper, untrimmed, cover and spine worn (contemporary binding). Printed in an edition of 550 copies on vellum paper. The first attempt at a collected edition of Rimbaud’s poetry, containing several pieces in their original publication form. This copy features the correct title page and an unabridged preface. In 1887, Rodolphe Darzens purchased from Paul Demeny a collection of twenty-two poems now known as the *Demeny Collection*, which Arthur Rimbaud had written in September–October 1870 in Douai. Following the successive publications of *Les Poètes maudits* (1884) and *Les Illuminations* (1886), the editorial project to publish Rimbaud’s poems continued with *Reliquaire*. Léon Genonceaux published *Reliquaire* without Rodolphe Darzens’s consent, with a preface composed without his knowledge based on notes he had left behind. The book went on sale in Paris on November 10, 1891, the day of Rimbaud’s death. Darzens had about a hundred copies seized; the preface was removed from them, and they were put back on sale with a new title dated 1892. *Reliquaire* contains fifty-seven poems—contrary to what the table of contents indicates—including nineteen previously unpublished poems and four apocryphal ones. This copy is in fine condition and likely belonged to someone close to Rimbaud and Darzens; the preface contains three handwritten corrections in blue pencil, and a note in black pencil above the table of contents indicates the four apocryphal poems.
