DECAMPS (Alexandre). *Le Musée*. Review of the 1834 Salon. Paris: Ledoux, 1834. In-4, red half-leather, decorated spine, untrimmed. FIRST EDITION: frontispiece and 25 separate plates by Célestin Nanteuil, Decamps, Barye, Johannot, Paul Huet, Cabat, Gigoux, Eug. Delacroix, and P. Marilhat. ONE OF THE EXTREMELY RARE COPIES RESERVED FOR CONTRIBUTORS, CONTAINING ALL 25 PLATES AS EARLY ETCHING PROOFS, on mounted China paper. Here is what Philippe Burty wrote on a flyleaf of his copy: “This *Salon* by Alexandre Decamps, the painter’s brother, is one of the rarest copies (I know of only three) containing the original etching proofs instead of the lithographic transfer, which is deceptively perfect. The etchings by Barye and Delacroix were never printed separately and can therefore only be found in these elite editions.” Delacroix’s etching, on pre-letter Chinese paper and transferred to stone, is as follows: *Encounter of Moorish Horsemen*, 1834, Delteil no. 23, “printed in a small edition.” EXTREMELY RARE AND OF THE HIGHEST ARTISTIC INTEREST.
Delivery is optional. You can use the carrier of your choice. The stated price does not include the lot price or the auction house fees.
