(Original binding) PRECIOUS MANUSCRIPT, consisting of a title page and 37 folios in elegant calligraphy, detailing the history and state of revenues of the Versailles Estate in 1765, including a list of woods and forests, the names of the owners of the fiefs belonging to the estate, etc. The estate inspector was responsible for “ensuring the preservation of the rights of justice, movances, direct taxes, censive dues, and seigneurial and feudal rights pertaining to the said estate,... to have notices posted to facilitate the auctions of the dependent farms, to conduct said auctions, to examine the solvency of the successful bidders and their sureties, to ensure that the farmers and successful bidders fulfill the obligations, clauses, and conditions of their leases, to conduct inspections and tours throughout the entire extent of the said estate for this purpose, and at the same time to prepare inventories and reports on the repairs to be made to the houses, farms, and outbuildings belonging to it, and to ensure that they are properly maintained and repaired; furthermore, to be present at the auctions and sales of timber to examine and discuss the financial standing of the successful bidders’ sureties”; he was also responsible for verifying the receipts issued by the tax collector.
