BINDING FEATURING THE MONOGRAM OF EMPRESS JOSEPHINE. Official Correspondence of the Army of Egypt, containing the latest dispatches brought by General Vial, who departed from Cairo on the 12th of Brumaire, Year IX, and by General Menon’s aide-de-camp, Netherwood, who arrived in Toulon on the 19th of Frimaire, along with a collection of documents detailing the proceedings and judgment of General Kléber’s assassin and his accomplices, compiled by a senior officer of the Army of Egypt. In Paris, published by Pironnet, Year IX (1801). In-8, 226 pp., speckled fawn calfskin, spine decorated “with an urn” featuring an old red title label, initials P. B. at the bottom, small lace border on the covers, yellow edges (contemporary binding). FIRST EDITION of this highly interesting correspondence containing an account of military events at the end of the Egyptian Campaign, General Menon’s proclamations regarding the organization of the country under French rule, daily orders, and other important details. A PRECIOUS COPY BELONGING TO EMPRESS JOSEPHINE, bearing her cipher P.B. (Pagerie-Bonaparte) at the bottom of the spine and the stamp “Bibliothèque de La Malmaison” on the half-title page. This copy is in perfect condition, and its provenance is all the more valuable given that the work concerns the Egyptian Campaign, in which the First Consul of the Republic served as Commander-in-Chief.
