Jean-Baptiste DESHAYS (1729–1765). “Study of a Draped Woman Seen from Behind.” Black chalk, charcoal, with highlights in white and blue chalk. 45.2 x 34.4 cm. Provenance: David Daniels Collection, New York; Sotheby’s London auction on April 25, 1978, lot 79 (attributed to François Boucher). This drawing, long attributed to his master François Boucher, was reattributed to Jean-Baptiste Deshays, his student and son-in-law, by Mr. Alastair Laing. This is a preparatory study for a female figure in *Aurora and Cephalus*, a painting presented by Deshays at the annual exhibition of the *École Protégée* in 1754 and erroneously published by Ananoff as being by Boucher (in Alexandre Ananoff, *François Boucher*, Wildenstein Institute 1976, no. 2911). Expert: Cabinet De Bayser, Paris.
