NATIONAL CASH REGISTER COMPANY 1909. Cash register, Model 592X-E. This masterpiece of mechanical engineering and industrial design established itself in the early 20th century as an indispensable tool for business management and a symbol of prestige for retailers around the world. Designed by the National Cash Register Company (NCR), founded in 1884 in Ohio by John H. Patterson, our machine features a significant innovation: since 1906, NCR has equipped its most advanced machines with an electric motor. It is entirely adorned with chiseled bronze motifs on all sides in an elaborate Edwardian style, blending floral motifs, palmettes, and volutes—typical of high-end machines. The entire unit rests on a wooden base, complete with its cash drawer. The glass windows display the amounts in “Francs” and “Centimes,” which are visible to both the customer and the salesperson. Its serial number, 742637, indicates 1909 as the year of manufacture. Dimensions: H: 78 cm, D: 44 cm, W: 74.5 cm. Appraiser: Philippe Crasse, Toulouse.
