De Stijl Rug Wool Date of creation: 1930 Tears along one edge; minor restoration. This rug, in the style of the De Stijl movement (Dutch, active from 1917 to 1931), embraces the formal vocabulary of this revolutionary movement: absolute geometry, primary colors, and horizontal and vertical lines. De Stijl—whose best-known figures include Theo van Doesburg, Piet Mondrian, and Gerrit Rietveld—exerted a considerable influence on 20th-century design, architecture, painting, and the applied arts as a whole.
