Kwok Hoi Chan Leda Chair Reinforced structure upholstered in foam, covered in jersey knit fabric Steiner edition, limited to 1,000 pieces Creation date: 1970 H114 W83 D74 cm Kwok Hoi Chan's Leda chair - named after the mythological figure seduced by Zeus metamorphosed into a swan - is an organic, enveloping 114 cm-high form, whose jersey-knit upholstered frame evokes a living creature as much as a seat. Issued by Steiner in a limited edition of 1,000, it belongs to a seminal moment in French design: the era when Steiner, a benchmark Parisian publisher, was publishing daring experimental forms under the impetus of a generation of breakaway designers. At 300 / 500 €, it's a remarkably affordable entry into an emblematic piece of 1970s French design. Kwok Hoi Chan (born 1939) A naturalized French designer of Chinese origin, Kwok Hoi Chan's creative work with the Steiner studio anticipated the challenges of sensory and organic design. His Leda chair is one of the most original contributions to French furniture design in the 1970s, and is regularly featured in retrospective exhibitions dedicated to the period.
