Henk Lampe (born 1951) Leunkruk, Plakhout series Support stool Mahogany plywood Date of creation: 1979, Netherlands H93 W27.5 D37.2 cm In its original condition, showing visible signs of age and use, including surface wear, slight marks, and wear on the edges of the plywood. Please refer to the photographs for more details. A rare and sculptural “Leunkruk” (backrest stool), designed in 1979 by Dutch artist and designer Henk Lampe as part of his “Plakhoutserie” experiment. Composed of geometric elements made of laminated plywood, this stool features a circular seat, a slanted disc-shaped backrest, and an architectural structure formed by intersecting rectangular elements. The deliberately exposed construction, the visible edges of the plywood, and the unique proportions reflect Henk Lampe’s experimental approach to furniture design; he combines the functional principles of Modernism with the playful formal language of the then-emerging Dutch Postmodernism. The “Plakhoutserie” was conceived as a furniture collection assembled from geometric plywood elements. According to design experts, this series was never mass-produced, which gives the surviving pieces particular significance in the history of Dutch experimental furniture. An example of the “Leunkruk” dating from 1979 is part of the collection at the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam (inventory number: St 538). Condition: Bibliography/Reference: Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam, collection no. St 538.
