Arne Norell (1917-1971) Sirocco model Armchair Teak and Pierre Frey fabric Edition Arne Norell aB Creation date: 1964 H71 W64 D66 cm Sirocco armchair in solid teak and Pierre Frey fabric (refinished). Published by Arne Norell AB (Sweden), 1964. H 71 × W 64 × D 66 cm. Arne Norell (1917-1971) was one of the most original Swedish designers of the post-war period. His Sirocco armchair (1964) - whose name evokes the hot desert wind - is an extraordinary synthesis of traditional colonial furniture (the safari armchair, the camp chair) and Scandinavian design values: formal sobriety, quality materials, functional comfort. The light, removable solid teak structure and the canvas stretched over a frame create an elegant dialogue of materials. Pierre Frey fabric, a luxury textile manufacturer, enhances the overall effect. A rare work by a designer whose reputation is growing rapidly internationally.
