Cor Bras Monumental High-Back Chair / Throne Dark oak, stainless steel, and resin H218 W63 D65 HA48 cm In very good condition. Irregularities, natural imperfections, and areas filled with resin in the wood are intentional features of the original design. A monumental sculptural chair, a work by Dutch artist and furniture designer Cor Bras, based in Oud-Beijerland, the Netherlands. Rising to an impressive height of 218 cm, this handcrafted piece combines a remarkably elongated oak backrest—evoking a ladder—with a solid wood seat and sculptural stainless steel elements forming the legs and a curved armrest. The dark oak reveals a pronounced natural grain, accented by intentionally preserved imperfections and areas filled with a gray-toned resin. These details are an integral part of the artist’s approach and highlight the material’s expressive character. The contrast between the materials and the unconventional design give this chair a unique architectural presence, almost comparable to that of a throne. Cor Bras is known for his handcrafted furniture, often exploring atypical structures and questioning the boundary between furniture and sculpture. A striking example of Dutch contemporary art furniture, designed both as a functional seat and as a sculptural object.
