Fascinated by the potential of clay and the millennia-old knowledge surrounding it, Lea Munsch explores this material with curiosity and instinct. She draws inspiration from what nature provides. She works primarily with raw clay, seeking out the textures, colors, and inherent qualities of the material. In her studio, a timeless language of forms emerges—sculptures at the intersection of art and architecture. The primordial connection between earth and clay permeates her practice—an age-old, instinctive bond whose presence is palpable in her work. Léa Munsch is interested in the cultures imagined by ancient civilizations long before the year 0 CE and in prehistoric art, drawn to the powerful connection that existed then between art, life, and nature. Like an archaeological endeavor that blurs the lines of time, her sculptures seem to emerge from an ancient future. In her practice, she cultivates a listening to her instincts and draws upon them to give form to an abstract, architectural, raw, textured, and natural world. Léa Munsch lives and works in Lorraine. She has settled by a river, in a former factory surrounded by forests.
