Romain les Bains Victoire 5 Glazed stoneware One-of-a-kind piece 2023 H26 L51 D17 cm Victoire (2023) is a series of sculptures by Romain les Bains that interprets two symbols of triumph: the trophy and the laurel wreath. The body is shaped and then distorted on the wheel. The handles are added next; each leaf, hand-modeled, is attached to them. It is meticulous work. There is nothing triumphant about this victory. The forms sag; the glaze, laden with mineral oxides, gives the surface a charred appearance.
