Émile PINCHON (1872–1933) "Horse with a Blanket" circa 1925 Bronze with a brown patina, signed on the base. 28 x 40 cm Bears an old exhibition label beneath the base reading “Buenos Aires No. 7, M. Pinchon, Thoroughbred Horse.” This bronze is also featured in the catalog of the 1934 Pinchon retrospective at the Grand Palais. Rare early casting (likely a one-of-a-kind piece). The artist’s grandniece, Miss Brault, reports that Émile worked in the Landowski studio during this period (1925–1930) and that he sculpted horses there. After 1930, he was occupied for 10 months with a government commission for a pavilion at the 1931 Colonial Exposition. (Exhibition catalog, *The Little-Known Work of Joseph and Emile Pinchon*, Noyon, September 15, 2007 – January 6, 2008) Our artist died in 1933 of a heart attack. In the spring of 1934, during its annual exhibition, the Société Nationale des Arts Animaliers organized a retrospective exhibition of Emile Pinchon’s equestrian works at the Grand Palais. Our bronze sculpture was part of this retrospective and caught the attention of a journalist from *Sport Universel*, who commented: “We must conclude this brief overview of a very fine exhibition with a farewell to our dear departed artists: [...] Émile Pinchon, with the horse on the cover and the pony from the Gers. His entire body of work will leave us with the memory of a great artist.”
