[DORE (Gustave)]. The Holy Bible. A new translation based on the Vulgate by J.-J. Bourassé and P. Janvier. Illustrations by Gustave DORE. Text ornamentation by Jacques Giacomelli. 2 large folio volumes bound in full red shagreen, spined with raised bands and gilded panels, large gilt plate on the covers featuring Egyptomaniac motifs forming a quatrefoil frame with a large repeated motif of wings and serpents framing three stars, gilt edges. Tours: Mame, 1874. With 230 illustrations by Gustave Doré. Corners slightly rubbed; otherwise, VERY BEAUTIFUL VOLUMES in their deluxe bindings. Ref.: Vicaire I, p. 475 A second edition was published the same year as the First Edition (1866). Our copy is a reprint of this second edition, which featured significant differences in the illustrations compared to the first edition.
