Illustrated with 40 etchings by Laszlo Barta, a Hungarian artist. 1 volume, in-4 (25x33), bound in full red morocco leather, smooth spine; the front cover features a color illustration of masks worn by two characters from ancient Greek theater, and the back cover features a motif of objects (jug, fish); endpapers in black morocco with a gilt border surrounding a Chinese-style motif in red morocco, gilt head. Slotted slipcase (very slight sun fading along the edge of one cover, a small black spot). Limited edition of 109 numbered copies; this one is No. 1 of 59 on Montval paper (No. 89). Volume includes a separate in-4 watercolor depicting three Greek men (unsigned). Included is a certificate of authenticity from Barta attesting that the binding was specially created for this copy and will never, under any circumstances, be reproduced. Subscription form enclosed. DELUXE EDITION of this comedy by Aristophanes, which describes the sex strike launched by Athenian women to persuade their husbands to end the war with Sparta. SUPERB COPY.
