A Defense of the Essay on Indifference in Matters of Religion. 1 volume, in-8, bound in modern half-vellum, ribbed spine with date at the foot, brown morocco title label, double fillet on the edges, marbled edges. Paris: Méquignon fils aîné / Lyon: Périssé, 1821 (2nd edition from the same year as the original). Front cover partially sun-faded; otherwise, a VERY BEAUTIFUL COPY. A major work in La Mennais’s body of work. Bearing the coat of arms of Pavé de Vendeuvre. Guillaume Pavé de Vandeuvre served as a deputy and then as a Peer of France from 1837 to 1848.
