Treatise on the Attack and Defense of Fortified Places. 2 volumes, in-8, bound in full marbled calfskin of the period, spine with raised bands and floral panels, title labels in burgundy morocco leather, and volume markers in gold morocco leather, red edges. The Hague de Hondt 1742–1743 (New edition, much more accurate and comprehensive than the previous one, enriched with instructive notes and a eulogy of Mr. de Vauban). Gilded inscription “Mr. de VAUBLANC” in the center of the front covers. With 47 folding plates. BEAUTIFUL COPIES, the interior very fresh. BEAUTIFUL PLATES. Ref: Quérard X, p. 70 Vauban presented his treatise on attack to the Duke of Burgundy in 1704 and composed his treatise on defense in 1706 following the battles of Hochstoedt and Ramillies.
