WILKENS & SÖHNE Bremen Title: Large Silver Art Nouveau Centerpiece with Two Graces. Date: Dated 1909. Material: Silver. Both side inserts and the applied bowl are silver-plated. Weight approx. 3640g. Dimensions: Height 55cm, 69 x 23 cm. Hallmark: Crescent & Crown, standard fineness 800, maker’s mark, no. 161295 (?). Description: The long, gently curved base features two inset bowls and relief carvings depicting various aquatic plants within organically curved frames. In the center is an openwork cartouche. Above this are two fully sculpted female figures in long, draped robes. With their arms raised, they hold an elongated, boat-shaped bowl with a multi-curved, wavy rim and stylized flowers at the points where the supporting arms join the bowl. A dedicatory inscription is engraved on the corresponding cartouche panel of the base: “Dedicated to the members of the Executive Board of the Bremen Cotton Exchange / To your esteemed colleague and dear friend Mr. W. Cramer in celebration of his silver wedding anniversary on June 5, 1909” Condition: The upper bowl is simply placed on top without being secured, as one screw is missing and there are several scratches.
