PARIS Title: Large Missal Casket. Date: ca. 1500. Material: Wooden core covered in leather, silk, or silk velvet, with iron. Lined inside with reddish leather. Dimensions: 14 x 22 x 32 cm. Mark: Collection label inside reading “St. John and Cicely Hornby No. C117.” Description: Rectangular body with a stepped, raised center. Iron bands riveted lengthwise onto the hinged lid. Two loop eyelets on each side. On the front, on the narrow side, the lock features a double hasp with a tree-shaped relief. Flanked by two square panels with openwork ornamentation and two column-like central sections The Michel Rullier collection, which was auctioned in May 2010, included a very similar casket.
