DRESDEN Title: Walnut Display Cabinet on a Stand. Date: Mid-18th century. Material: Walnut, veneered and carved, partially gilded. The interior is polychromed in Veronese green. Acromatic glass. Dimensions: 242 x 133 x 42 cm. Description: The elegantly curved base, featuring a two-door front, rests on four short rocaille feet. The fitted frame features stylized, slender curves that overlap slightly at their ends. Together with the broken pediment, this lends the piece a very harmonious overall appearance. Between the base and the top of the display cabinet is a narrow, grooved plinth with two front-facing drawers. The top of the display cabinet features five custom-shaped shelves and a flared gable. The curved struts of the display cabinet doors are gilded and decorated with floral motifs, as are the moldings on the sides of the upper section. Bibliography: Haase, Gisela: Dresdner Möbel des 18.
