GIACOMO ANTONIO SANTAGOSTINO The Assumption of the Virgin Oil on panel, 68x51 cm; unframed. The painting is by the artist Giacomo Sant'Agostino and depicts the Assumption of the Virgin surrounded by angels who are playing music and singing. The painting bears a striking resemblance to the *Madonna Immacolata* of 1640, housed in the Basilica of San Martino in Magenta (Milan). Active in the Milanese area during the time of the Duchy of Milan, he served several local nobles for whom he produced religious works. Among his various works is the Marian cycle in the Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin of the River in Mandello del Lario, commissioned by the Ajroldi family of Robbiate. He had two sons, Agostino and Giacinto, who were also accomplished painters.
