GIOVANNI BATTISTA LAMA The Holy Family with Saint Anne and Angels Oil on canvas, 81.5 x 65 cm Giovanni Battista Lama was an Italian painter active primarily in Naples. He was one of Luca Giordano’s most talented students and a trusted painter for the Brancaccio family. Many churches in Naples house his works. Some of his paintings can also be found in monasteries and churches in major cities in southern Italy, such as Lecce, Bari, Aversa, and Sorrento. The Church of Sant’Agostino in Chieti houses one of his paintings depicting the Death of Saint Joseph. He is often confused with Giovanni Bernardo Lama, who was also a Neapolitan painter.
