MASTER OF THE REDOUBT Scene of everyday life in a kitchen: winter Oil on canvas, 94.5x130.5 cm The name "Maestro del Ridotto" refers to an as-yet unidentified painter often associated with Pietro Longhi (1701-1785) or his followers, known for portraying scenes of everyday and mundane life in 18th-century Venice. The Ridotto was the well-known Venetian gambling hall that became an icon of the costume of the time. The very pleasant canvas presents some stylistic peculiarities that allow us to identify the hand of the Master of the Ridotto, an artist with a fine language, marked by an elegance of sign and a filamentous pictorial conduct in the rendering of clothes. Analysis of the scene allows us a lucid view of the dwellings of the time, with figures participating in genre depictions set in a comfortable and affluent kitchen. Bibliography: R.
