MARCO MARCOLA Indoor Scene with Masked Figures Oil on canvas, 46x57 cm The painting depicts a carnival scene featuring masks from the Commedia dell’Arte, attributable to the style and circle of the Veronese painter Marco Marcola (1711–1780). Marco Marcola’s body of work includes sacred subjects, mythological scenes, allegories, and decorations for aristocratic palaces and villas, as well as lively depictions of everyday life. It is precisely in these genre scenes that the most personal aspect of his art emerges: festivals, markets, performances, aristocratic entertainments, and figures from the common people are depicted with narrative immediacy, theatrical spirit, and a subtle vein of irony.
