Georges ROUAULT (1871–1958). Signed autograph letter addressed to a friend. No place, no date. 2 pp. in-4. [ ] Is that art lover you mention still alive? Two musicians—Ricardo Vet and Walter Rummel—whom I know very well; it would be nice to talk with them a bit. But alas . I’m swamped with work. Like Samson, blinded… and weak as a child—this latest war, especially the Fifth Army, has worn me down… Morally, I creak like an old door on rusty hinges, and since we lack lubricating oil, what sad music [ ]. It would be a pleasure to chat if, during the day, I weren’t held captive by the Infidels—alas, all too often those for whom painting is an investment, and has been so long before all this recent business, and by whom I’ve been dramatized… torn apart all too often and a workaholic, as Ambroise said, with some justification [ ].
