Louis-Ferdinand Destouches, known as CELINE (1894–1961). Signed autograph letter addressed to his “Dear Old Friend” [Jean-Gabriel Daragnès?]. No place, no date [Denmark], “the 16th” [ca. 1949–1950]. 1 folio page. Céline, in exile in Denmark, mentions the attorneys, Albert Naud and Jean-Louis Tixier-Vignancour, who were in charge of his defense during the trial that sentenced him in absentia on February 21, 1950, to one year in prison, national disgrace, and the partial confiscation of his property. “Oh, my dear Old Man, just make sure Tixier doesn’t come here. He’s very nice, but he’s a verbal disaster” (Naud, on the other hand, might actually be useful... And then Naud would get one of those fits of jealousy that would have them tearing each other apart in court! Enough of these blunderers, for heaven’s sake! One more bear-sized tome and I’ll pass ad patres’ [and die]! You get it! [ ]. On the back of the page is a fragment of an autograph manuscript, consisting of eight lines, six of which are crossed out. It reads: *Le temps des cerises*, the simpering, the romance, set to the *falbalas*, etc.
