ANDREA LANZANI (attributed to) Crucifixion Oil on shaped canvas, 212x165 cm, in an original old painted wooden frame. The Crucifixion in question—a pendant to the shaped canvas depicting the Flagellation of Christ—is also attributed to Andrea Lanzani, a prominent figure in Milanese painting at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries. The painting attests to the artist’s refined artistic language, in which the influence of Maratti—acquired during his stay in Rome between 1674 and 1677—is reflected in a measured and harmonious composition. The overall luminosity and the light tones of the palette help define a pictorial language that opens up to the sensibility characteristic of the following century. Bibliography: See S. Colombo, M.
