Robert Décremps, known as DÉRO (1920–2000) The Tennis Player, circa 1970–1980 Oil on canvas, signed lower on the back of the canvas 82 x 100 cm With knees bent and a wooden racket clasped in both hands, a player watches for the ball against a green and gold background. He is captured at the height of his concentration, in that moment when, unlike the painter, he has no room for second thoughts. Was it Roland Garros, which Déro frequented assiduously, or Wimbledon, which fascinated him?
