Wrestling / Jatte / Méténier / Neuilly / Cité Chaptal MÉTÉNIER, Oscar, *La Revanche de Dupont l’Anguille* (Dupont the Eel’s Revenge), 2 acts and 3 scenes Paperback edition illustrated with 26 faux-engravings, 1898, published by Flammarion. With the astonishing Méténier, we rub shoulders with the seedy underworld of the Belle Époque. At the heart of the world of fairground wrestling, where poverty goes hand in hand with baseness and panache, on the Île de la Jatte, during the Neuilly festival. We encounter Dupont, Nif-Nif the Comtois, Bertrand of Marseille, Ratata, Léon the Lyonnais, and Marie the Bordelaise. Richly illustrated. Strength, fencing, and wrestling take center stage.
