ROGER LANDAULT (France, 1919–1983) for Editions ABC. Set of six chairs, 1955. Lacquered steel frame; oak; seats reupholstered in bouclé fabric. In very good condition. Measurements: 75 x 42 x 53 cm. With a lacquered steel frame and oak wood, this set of chairs features a composition of clean lines. The upholstered seats add softness to the set and contrast with the geometric hallmarks of the design. Roger Landault’s work is part of the context of postwar French design, marked by experimentation with new materials and the search for functional solutions for home furnishings. During the 1950s, collaboration between designers and furniture publishers such as Éditions ABC contributed to the spread of a modern design language, characterized by formal simplicity and attention to construction quality.
