146 - JOAQUIM BELSA (Barcelona, 1929–2018) for Aresta.

JOAQUIM BELSA (Barcelona, 1929–2018) for Aresta. Model 320 chest of drawers, “Serie Negra” collection, 1960s. Solid ukola wood; cedar wood interior; with original porcelain handles. In very good condition. Measurements: 77 x 95 x 43 cm. Crafted from solid ukola wood, with cedar wood interior and original porcelain handles, it features a composition of geometric volumes and straight lines, structured by drawers that reinforce the horizontal lines of the piece. The formal simplicity is a hallmark of the design, contrasting with the richness of the wood and the detail of the handles, which add a subtle decorative touch. Joaquim Belsa’s work for Aresta is part of the renewal of Spanish furniture design during the 1950s and 1960s, a period marked by the gradual incorporation of modern design languages into the domestic sphere. The “Serie Negra” collection reflects a conception of furniture based on geometry, simplicity, and attention to detail, combining the tradition of woodworking with a contemporary aesthetic. This dresser is an example of Spanish design from that era, in which functionality and formal elegance are integrated into pieces designed to stand the test of time. It is part of a set with lots 40052235 and 40052236.
