JOAQUIM BELSA (Barcelona, 1929–2018) for Aresta. Model 320 chest of drawers, “Serie Negra” collection, 1960s. Solid ukola wood; cedar wood interior; original porcelain handles. In very good condition. Measurements: 77 x 95 x 43 cm. Crafted from solid ukola wood, with cedar wood interiors and original porcelain handles, it features a structure of geometric volumes and straight lines, with a composition characterized by a strong horizontal orientation. The contrast between the wood tones adds richness to a design of refined character. Joaquim Belsa’s work for Aresta is part of the evolution of Spanish furniture design during the 1950s and 1960s, a period marked by the gradual incorporation of modern design principles into the domestic sphere. The “Serie Negra” collection reflects a conception of furniture based on geometric purity, ornamental restraint, and the use of high-quality materials, in keeping with the innovative trends of postwar European design. This dresser is a representative example of the quest for a balance between functionality, formal rigor, and elegance—a hallmark of modern furniture of that era. It forms a set with lots 40052235 and 40052237.
