KNUT HESTERBERG (Lörrach, Germany, 1941–2016) for RONALD SCHMITT. “Propeller” coffee table. Germany, 1960s. Aluminum base and thick glass top. Good vintage condition. Measurements: 45.5 cm high; 100 cm in diameter. Knut Hesterberg was a German sculptor and furniture designer known for his sculptural tables made of aluminum, steel, and glass. His designs were primarily produced by the Ronald Schmitt company. Among his creations, the “Propeller” table stands out; its propeller-shaped base exemplifies his approach to combining sculpture and functionality. The transparent tabletop reveals the structure beneath, making the base the focal point of the piece—an approach that defines much of his work.
