KAI KRISTIANSEN (1929) for Magnus Olesen Paper Knife Armchair. Teak wood frame; upholstered with new wool fabric from Kvadrat. In excellent condition. Measurements: 78 x 65 x 80 cm. Teak wood frame with curved arms, whose profile resembles the blade of a paper knife and gives the model its name. Seat and backrest with cushions upholstered in new Kvadrat wool fabric. The combination of the warmth of the wood and the lightness of the frame defines a piece of great elegance, representative of mid-20th-century Scandinavian design. Kai Kristiansen (b. 1929) was one of the leading Danish designers of the generation that revitalized furniture design during the 1950s and 1960s, a period characterized by a focus on ergonomics, high-quality materials, and functionality. The Magnus Olesen firm, founded in Denmark in 1937, played a significant role in the development of modern Danish design, collaborating with designers such as Kristiansen and Ib Kofod-Larsen. The Paper Knife model, originally produced as Model 121, became one of the most recognizable creations of this collaboration, thanks to the unique silhouette of its arms and the balance between traditional craftsmanship and modern form.
