Seven-piece modular sofa, model “DS-11,” by De Sede (Switzerland), 1970s. Upholstered in dark brown leather with a patchwork design. It shows scuffs and discoloration on the leather, especially on the sides and armrests, consistent with its age and use. Measurements: 62 x 62 x 85 cm (measurements of each module, the central ones). The “DS-11” model is one of the most representative examples of the modular furniture developed by De Sede during the 1970s, a period of particular innovation in upholstered seating design. The set stands out for its structure of low, generous volumes, with padded seats and backrests upholstered in leather using a distinctive patchwork technique, whose geometric seams create an attractive grid-like effect. Its seven independent modules allow for various configurations, adapting to the dimensions and needs of the space. The dark brown leather has developed a patina over time that accentuates the set’s vintage character. Founded in 1965 in Klingnau, Switzerland, from a family-run upholstery workshop, De Sede became one of Europe’s most renowned manufacturers for the quality of its leatherwork and its innovative furniture solutions. During the 1960s and 1970s, the company developed a significant line of sofas and modular systems, characterized by formal experimentation, comfort, and meticulous craftsmanship. Among its best-known designs are the “DS-600,” “DS-1025,” and “DS-11” models.
