JOHANNES ANDERSEN (Aarhus, Denmark, 1903–1991) for Trensum. Three-seater sofa, “Capri” model, designed in 1958. Original edition. Frame upholstered in the original fabric featuring stylized plant motifs, with chrome-plated steel legs. In good condition, with slight signs of wear. Measurements: 72 x 254 x 79 cm. The “Capri” model is one of the most distinctive designs by Johannes Andersen, a leading figure in mid-20th-century Scandinavian furniture design. Designed in 1958 for the Swedish manufacturer Trensum, it is characterized by its elegant organic silhouette and elongated proportions, which reflect the search for new formal solutions within Nordic modernism. It features a curved backrest that extends toward the ends, forming wide armrests with rounded profiles. The three seat cushions follow the gentle curve of the piece, while the discreet metal supports visually elevate the structure and accentuate its lightness. Of particular interest is the preservation of its original upholstery, featuring a delicate print of schematic botanical motifs in grayish tones, characteristic of mid-20th-century aesthetics. Johannes Andersen was a prominent Danish designer, renowned for his furniture with fluid lines and his unique interpretation of Scandinavian functionalism. Trained as a cabinetmaker, he completed his apprenticeship in 1922 and established his own design studio during the 1930s. He collaborated with major furniture manufacturers, including CFC Silkeborg, Uldum Møbelfabrik, Bramin, and the Swedish firm Trensum, for which he developed the “Capri” collection. His creations—especially his organically shaped coffee tables and chairs—gained significant international recognition during the 1950s and 1960s.
