Paul BELMONDO (1898–1982) Portrait of the Marquis de Polignac Patinated plaster cast, signed. Height: 64 cm with the base (base dimensions: 18 x 19.5 x 25 cm). (Chips). The bronze bust of Melchior de Polignac was erected at the entrance to Parc Pommery in 1955 to honor his memory. As director of the Pommery house and a sports enthusiast, the Marquis de Polignac had donated and landscaped this park in the early 20th century for the well-being of his staff. Stolen in the 1980s, this bust—which was later recovered in Belgium—has not been reinstalled in the park, now known as Parc de Champagne.
