A collection of 14 professional and personal photographs documenting the life and career of author Peter Benchley. The group includes various formats such as 8 x 10 inch professional prints and smaller color snapshots. Professional materials include color and black-and-white stills from the 1994 production Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle, featuring Benchley in costume. Portraiture includes a black-and-white image of the author at a typewriter and a study in a wetsuit, along with a color portrait on a boat. Candid event photography captures Benchley at social gatherings, including a deck-side group shot captioned A Star is Born and six snapshots from a 1998 political fundraiser. Several images feature handwritten identification notes on the verso or attached via adhesive notes by Wendy Benchley. The reverse of one print is marked Kodak Royal Paper and Princeton Image. From the personal collection of Peter Benchley (American, 1940-2006), acclaimed author of Jaws, accomplished diver, and prominent advocate for ocean and shark conservation. Proceeds from the Peter Benchley Collection will benefit five ocean conservation organizations: Peter Benchley Ocean Awards, WildAid, Beneath the Waves, Blue Frontier, and Environmental Defense Fund. CONDITION: The photographs are in good condition with minor signs of handling and light edge wear consistent with a personal archive. Several prints have yellow adhesive notes attached directly to the image surfaces, which may leave localized residue upon removal. NOTICE TO BIDDERS: The absence of a condition report does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition. Photos are considered part of the condition report. Complete condition information is available by request, please request no later than 24 hours prior to the auction. All lots are offered and sold "as is", and Willow Auctions will not provide refunds based on condition. Timepiece movements, lighting and electrics have not been tested, and art has not been examined out of the frame unless otherwise stated.
