18th-Century Sèvres – Cup and Saucer, Louis XVI Period A rare Sèvres soft-paste porcelain cup and saucer from the Louis XVI period, with a deep blue background richly accented with gold. Each piece is adorned with a finely hand-painted polychrome reserve depicting a harbor scene animated by figures and ships, including a vessel flying a horizontal red-yellow-red flag, presumably Spanish. Remarkable gilded neoclassical decoration consisting of Greek fret friezes, garlands, foliage, and star motifs. Blue painted marks on the bottom of the cup and saucer featuring intertwined L’s and various symbols or letters, notably N and X.
