Ripamonti, Giuseppe. *Historiae patriae libri decem*, Milan, Malatesta, 1641–1648. An important history of Milan in splendid contemporary bindings of decorated morocco leather [Milan] A fine and rare edition of Giuseppe Ripamonti’s *Historiae patriae libri decem*, printed in Milan by Malatesta between 1641 and 1648. The work constitutes one of the most comprehensive accounts of Milanese history, from antiquity to the modern era, and is a fundamental source for the study of the city’s political, ecclesiastical, and cultural events. Ripamonti, a priest and Milan’s official historian, is also known for his account of the 1630 plague, which would go on to become one of the historical sources for Manzoni’s famous novel. This lot comprises the five volumes of the work, accompanied by a duplicate set, and is distinguished by its splendid contemporary bindings in red and brown morocco leather, richly decorated in gold and, in some cases, featuring refined leather mosaics—a testament to the high quality of 17th-century bookbinding.
