First complete edition of Vida’s poems and first authorized edition of his poem on chess Vida, Marco Girolamo. *De Arte Poetica*, Book III. *De Bombyce*, Book II. *De Ludo Scacchorum*, Book I. *Hymni*. *Bucolica*. Rome: degli Arrighi, 1527. Quarto (200 x 110 mm); [110] leaves. Italic type, initial letters with guide letters (two blank letters, L10 and O8, are missing). Attractive red morocco binding attributed to Duseuil with the title “Louis-Henri de Loménie de Brienne” embossed in gold within a frame of three thin lines, gilt edges (spine rebuilt). A magnificent copy of a rare and important work in the canon of chess books and in the history of Italian printing. It is printed in Arrighi’s final cursive typeface, acquired by Antonio Blado around 1530, and is the last work signed by Arrighi. The *De Ludo Scacchorum* describes, in Virgilian Latin, a chess game played between Apollo and Mercury in the presence of the other gods. Until then, it had appeared only in a pirated edition. First collected edition of Vida’s poetry and the first authorized edition of his poem on chess
