Marcolini, Marco Antonio. *Relacion de las exequias hechas en Roma a la magestad catolica del rey nuestro señor don Phelipe V*. Rome, Salvioni, 1746. An important book on festivities with magnificent illustrations Marcolini, Marco Antonio. Report on the Funeral Rites Held in Rome for His Catholic Majesty King Philip V, Our Lord. Rome, Salvioni, 1746. Folio (405 x 270 mm); XLII, [2] pages. Title page in red and black type with a chalcographic vignette; copper-engraved header, end-stops, and initials; 7 large engraved plates folded at the end of the volume. Cardboard cover lined with colored paper (modern endpapers). This edition was published on the occasion of the solemn funeral rites celebrated in Rome for Philip V of Bourbon, King of Spain, in the ancient church of San Giacomo degli Spagnoli, now known as Nostra Signora del Sacro Cuore. The volume contains the two funeral orations by Marco Antonio Marcolini and the Jesuit Father Guzmán and documents in detail the extraordinary ephemeral decorations created for the ceremony. Particularly noteworthy is the iconographic material, consisting of seven large folded plates that convey the magnificence of the set design by Ferdinando Fuga. The engravings were created by various artists, including Giuseppe Vasi, Baldassarre Gabbuggiani, Claude Gallimard, Louis Le Lorrain, and Michael Sorello, offering a valuable testament to the art of set design and ceremonial decoration in 18th-century Rome. A rare and sumptuous record of one of the great funeral ceremonies of 18th-century Rome, of particular interest for its exceptional set of large-format plates. Important festival book with a magnificent series of plates
