Doni, Anton Francesco. The Pumpkin (with Flowers, Leaves, and Fruits). Venice, Marcolini 1551–1552. A rare first edition by Marcolini Doni, Anton Francesco. The Pumpkin (with Flowers, Leaves, and Fruits). Venice, Marcolini 1551–1552. In octavo (162 x 108 mm); [32], 63, [9], 64, [8], 61, [35], 185, [21], 175, [1] pages, 87 leaves. Richly illustrated with woodcuts (sporadic stains). Bound in antique parchment, smooth spine with a dark morocco leather patch on the back bearing the title in gold (endpapers from the 20th century). *La Zucca* is one of the most original and bizarre works of sixteenth-century literature, compiling anecdotes, jokes, stories, and moral reflections, organized according to the unique metaphor of the pumpkin and its parts. Of particular interest are the woodcut illustrations, in which Doni and Marcolini reused plates previously employed in the famous *Libro delle Sorti*, creating a visual ensemble closely tied to the Venetian publishing experimentation of the time. Rare first Marcolini edition
