A Marian devotional book by the Franciscan Bernardino da Busto, printed in Strasbourg by Martin Flach in 1502. A rare Franciscan Marian devotional book in a beautiful antique binding A remarkable 16th-century calfskin binding on cypress boards with dry-stamped ironwork decoration, containing the Marian devotional book by the Franciscan Bernardino da Busto, printed in Strasbourg by Martin Flach in 1502. The text, set in a beautiful Gothic typeface in two columns, is a collection of sermons and meditations dedicated to the Virgin Mary, intended for preaching and the deepening of Marian devotion. The work attests to the centrality of the cult of the Virgin Mary in late medieval spirituality and to the popularity of Franciscan homiletic literature, which was widely disseminated thanks to the printing press. A rare Franciscan Mariale in a fine early binding
