Fabris, Salvatore. *La vera pratica e scienza d’armi*, Padua, 1624. First Paduan edition of a famous 17th-century treatise An interesting copy of the folio edition of Salvatore Fabris’s *La vera pratica e scienza d’armi*, printed in Padua by Tozzi in 1624, with a few missing pages, but overall highly fascinating and of remarkable visual impact. A master-at-arms originally from Padua who served at the Danish court, Fabris is the author of one of the most important and influential treatises on fencing of the early 17th century. First published in 1606 and reprinted several times, the work enjoyed extraordinary success throughout Europe and contributed to the spread of the Italian school of fencing. The nearly 200 plates illustrate various fencing positions and maneuvers, constituting an essential part of the work’s documentary value and success.
