VENEVITINOV, Dmitri Vladimirovich. The Complete Poetic Works of Venevitinov. The complete poetic and philosophical works of the shooting star of Russian Romanticism, cut down at the dawn of his genius. Saint Petersburg, A. S. Suvorin, 1901. In-12, fawn half-maroquin Bradel binding edged with a gold fillet, smooth spine with title running lengthwise. X and 90 pp., frontispiece portrait based on a watercolor by Sokolov. In Russian. Spine darkened with a stain along its length, slight rubbing, a few foxing spots on the outer margins, pages slightly frayed. Published in Alexei Suvorin’s “La bibliothèque Bon Marché” collection. Indicated as the third edition. Dmitri Vladimirovich Venevitinov (1805–1827), a poet and philosopher who died young at the age of 21, embodies early Russian Romanticism. The collection includes his famous philosophical poems (“To My Ring,” “The Testament”), his poetic correspondence with his cousin Alexander Pushkin, as well as his pioneering Russian translations of Goethe’s *Faust*. A pleasant copy in a contemporary binding.
