TROYAT, Henri. *Les Semailles et les moissons*. Complete series (*Les Semailles et les moissons*—*Amélie*—*La Grive*—*Tendre et violente Elisabeth*—*La Rencontre*). Complete series in first edition. Copies bound in pure-thread cloth, each featuring an autographed dedication to André Maurois and his wife. Paris, Plon, 1953–1958. 5 in-8 volumes, each bound in light-colored half-basane with corner pieces, four-ribbed spine, gilt fillet framing the panels, gilt head, untrimmed, covers and spine preserved. Volumes 3, 4, and 5 are uncut. 510, 393, 408, 413, and 437 pp. Some scuffing on the bindings, a small stain on the spine of the last volume, covers preserved but slightly discolored. Complete first edition of this saga that traces the fate of a French family, from Corrèze to Paris, as they face the upheavals of the 20th century. Through the intertwined lives of Élisabeth and then her daughter Amélie, the work realistically depicts the daily lives, loves, and resilience of ordinary people marked by the traumas of the two World Wars. Each volume is one of 110 numbered copies printed on Lafuma pure-fiber paper, and among these is one of the 10 non-commercial copies (No. H.C.L. 7). All bear an autographed dedication to André Maurois and his wife. The first volume includes the printed, personalized invitation card for André Maurois to Henri Troyat’s reception at the Institut de France (in-12 card with the Institut’s wet stamp). Simone André Maurois bookplate vignettes. A beautiful set.
