STENDHAL, Henri Beyle. Complete Works. *Le Divan*. 76 tomes in 57 volumes. Paris, Le Divan—“Le Livre du Divan” series, 1927–1937. 76 tomes in 57 in-16 volumes, each bound in red half-maroquin with corner caps, spine with four false ribs highlighted with gold and black fillets, upper and lower panels adorned with a black-and-gold fleur-de-lis, wide central panel adorned with a gold frieze featuring intertwined gold rings, gold headband, covers and spines preserved. Binding signed V. Granghaud. Spines slightly browned, some normal wear on the corners, caps, and raised bands (slightly more pronounced on about a dozen volumes). A superb, nearly complete series on Lafuma laid paper, bound in a uniform style, from the library of André Maurois (1885–1967). The writer drew heavily on Stendhal, whose incisive style and philosophy of the “pursuit of happiness” he considered pillars of his own literary thought. Founded by Henri Martineau (1882–1958), the principal architect of the author’s modern rediscovery, Éditions du Divan played a central role in Stendhalian studies in the 20th century. Published between 1927 and 1947, this edition constitutes the first major critical and exhaustive undertaking of Stendhal’s Complete Works. It includes first-rate critical apparatus as well as numerous previously unpublished writings. Included with this 76-volume set is: MICHEL, François. *Etudes stendhaliennes*. Paris, Mercure de France, 1958. In-8, bound in the same style, covers and spine preserved. First edition. One of the first 70 copies on Marias pure-fiber vellum (no. 26), printed for Simone André Maurois, featuring her ex-libris vignette. List of titles in alphabetical order: - A. Constantin - *Italian Ideas* (1 tome in 1 volume) - *Armance* (1 tome in 1 volume) - *The Charterhouse of Parma* (2 tomes in 2 volumes) - *Italian Chronicles* (2 tomes in 1 volume) - *Correspondence* (10 tomes in 5 volumes) - English Correspondence (5 tomes in 5 volumes) - On Love (2 tomes in 1 volume) - Italian Schools of Painting (3 tomes in 3 volumes) - History of Painting in Italy (2 tomes in 1 volume) - Journal (5 tomes in 5 volumes) - Lamiel (1 tome in 1 volume) - Miscellaneous Writings on Art (1 tome in 1 volume) - Miscellaneous Writings on Literature (3 tomes in 3 volumes) - Miscellaneous Writings on Politics and History (2 tomes in 1 volume) - Intimate Essays & Marginalia (2 tomes in 1 volume) - Memoirs of a Tourist (3 tomes in 3 volumes) - Molière, Shakespeare, Comedy, and Laughter (1 tome in 1 volume) - Pages from Italy (1 tome in 1 volume) - Thoughts (2 tomes in 1 volume) - Walks Through Rome (3 tomes in 3 volumes) - Racine and Shakespeare (1 tome in 1 volume) - Rome, Naples, and Florence (3 volumes in 1 book) - The Red and the Black (2 volumes in 2 books) - Novels and Short Stories (2 volumes in 1 book) - Memoirs of Egotism (1 volume in 1 book) - Alphabetical Index (4 tomes in 2 volumes) - Plays (3 tomes in 3 volumes) - The Life of Henry Brulard (2 tomes in 1 volume) - The Life of Rossini (2 tomes in 1 volume) - The Lives of Haydn, Mozart, and Metastasio (1 volume in 1 book) - Voyage dans le Midi de la France (1 volume in 1 book) The only volumes missing are those published after 1937: *Lucien Leuwen*, *Napoléon*, and the *Letters to Stendhal*.
